Social Studies Taste Fest

Students were studying the impact of immigration on culture in the United States.  The students also studied the push factors, such as, lack of freedom, war and famine and the pull factors, like freedom, family and economic opportunities that forced people to immigrate.   In "celebrating" our cultures, the students brought in a dish from a country of their ancestors.  We enjoyed a cultural "taste-fest!"

Valentine's Day Party at Forest View

As you can tell from our pictures, the students had a wonderful time at the bowling alley!  They were all so appreciative and thankful for the chance to get up and bowl!!

December was full of many exciting activities!  We skyped a classmate who was on vacation in Florida and learned about the geography and climate of a state very different than ours.  The culmination of our geography unit had us sampling foods found in different United States Regions.  Science had us not only learning about static electricity, but how to make a complete circuit as well!

Using "real" money to learn how to count and add with decimals made math more fun!  And, our holiday party had us celebrating in our pajamas, eating tacos and making crafts and playing games!

December was so much fun, I can't wait until January!   That is, after we thaw out from the Blizzard of 2014!!

Guess what we are learning about in science?!  You guessed it!  Static electricity.
