Study jams!

I introduced the students today to a new website:  studyjams.com and they loved it!  Their favorite parts were the videos, songs and raps that they could sing to learn their math material!!

Kindness Bookmarks at the Bedford Library

Students had a great time placing their "kindness bookmarks" into children's books at the Bedford Branch Library.  Thank you to all of the parents who brought their students!  What an excellent bucket-filling activity!  (Check out the Bedford Press for a great picture and article about our class project!)

In order to learn about polygons, I read the book Shape Up, by David Adler.  Students then "participated" in making shapes by using cheese to make triangles, bread to make polygons and pretzels to make angles!  The best part was eating our math shapes when we were done!

Math!

Students have been busy participating in math rotations!  Students are responsible for independent work, working in small groups with the teacher and playing games!  This week we played games on our projector!

Welcome to $pending City!

All 4th grade students were involved in creating a "mini" society within their classroom. After a vote, the students decided on the name $pending City. Students then voted on the money design, jobs and paychecks, and what good or service they would like to do during their market days. Students were quite the producers and enjoying bringing back the profits!

And, congratulations to those who quadrupled their AR points!

Congratulations to the students who tripled their AR points!

Let's study for science!

Musical Therapy

Students in my class have worked with a musical therapist since October. For a final culmination project she instructed the students, who were placed in groups, to pick a song. Students were then asked to come up with ten movements to include in their "dance" and it had to be movements that everyone could do. These are their final projects. What a wonderful class! I am so proud of how well they all work together!

Wax Museum

Enjoy our video from our wax museum. The first video shows our reader buddies experiencing the museum and the second is a video of our VIP's! Look at all of the people!
It's Wii time! Students were learning how to find the mean of numbers, so we got out the Wii and went bowling! Students were placed on teams and given an excel sheet with all teams listed. Every group kept track of total game scores. When all teams were finished bowling, every student find the mean of each team!

Trekking the Planet

Some members of our class are "trekking" across the planet, using the website trekkingtheplanet.net. The goal of this project is to bring geography to life. The students are using the newsletter included with this project and then creating projects to present what they have learned! Currently they are working on a Hawaiian alphabet book!

Dear America Books

The girls in class are having a great time reading and learning about history, using the Dear America books by Scholastic. These books are tied into social studies and our immigration unit. One group is reading So Far From Home, another is reading Color Me Dark and the last, Dreams in the Golden Country. Visit this site to read and learn more about girls in history. http://www.scholastic.com/dearamerica/
